We have an exciting opportunity for a senior data scientist to join our team and help us uncover new football insights to push our models further and stay at the forefront of our industry. 


The Role

As a senior data scientist in our data science team, you will have the opportunity to lead  a variety of projects across different areas of our business, working cross functionally with both engineers and with our teams of football experts. We are first and foremost a football company, and to have a big impact here, you will need not only technical skills, but also domain expertise – you will probably be a big football fan, and ideally someone who has worked with sports statistics before. We are looking for someone with a good product sense: you should be able to think strategically and set your own direction. You need to be able to make good decisions even when there is a lot of ambiguity, understanding the trade-offs of different approaches.


What you’ll do

  • Proactively explore our data and perform analyses to help us find areas we can improve
  • Work collaboratively with both the Data Science team and the wider business to help Football Radar make the right business decisions
  • Autonomously undertake research projects focused on both short-term and long-term goals
  • Manage your own projects, showing good judgment on key project management decisions
  • Communicate your results to both technical and non-technical audiences


What you’ll bring

  • A track record of applying data science techniques to help organisations make decisions
  • A solid understanding of the fundamentals concepts of statistics and data science. You don’t need to be an expert in any one area, but you do need a broad awareness of what tools and techniques are available and the trade-offs in each of them
  • An experienced programmer (we are using Python for most things, but prior experience with Python isn’t essential), with good knowledge of SQL
  • Experience of deploying predictive models to production (ideally using AWS or another cloud environment)
  • Excellent communication skills – you should have a history of communicating technical ideas to non-experts 
  • Curious and keen to learn 
  • An ability to work collaboratively with a team
